Octave: Helicopter Game

22 Dec
December 22, 2013

This game is another part of Octave, an educational game for singers.

In the Helicopter game, players are challenged to sing notes as they show up on screen. The Helicopter moves up or down based on the pitch of the player’s voice using an accurate pitch detection solution developed by my peer, Chenyu Wang.

I was responsible for everything but the artwork (and pitch detection), working closely with a few other developers to take the idea from concept to prototype. We’re still adding polish (and additional content) but the core features are nearly complete.

While I’m sure you have a lovely singing voice, I was forced to disable our pitch detection algorithm for the web version of this build, so you won’t see the helicopter respond to your input.

Music Education Game: Tonal Recall

Tonal Recall is a client project built in Unity3D. It’s a music game where players must listen and play back progressively longer series of notes. Each level unlocks a new note.

Particular time and effort was spent on the animation systems driving the game. The game and aesthetic design, art assets, and animation mockups were provided by my client; the entire unity implementation, as well as the audio assets, were created by me.
